What is a Tackling Indigenous Smoking (TIS) worker?

Tackling Indigenous Smoking (TIS) teams can be found in some Aboriginal Health Services across Australia, including in remote areas. TIS workers are part of these teams. They are deadly mob in community who are trained to yarn with you about your quitting smoking or vaping.

TIS workers can:

  • be your first, local point of contact
  • offer a safe space for you to yarn about your smoking or vaping
  • get you started with practical information
  • support young mob to quit
  • support you if you are pregnant and quitting smoking or vaping
  • refer you to Aboriginal Quitline as well as ongoing community support while you're quitting smoking/vaping.

As part of our Circle of Care approach, TIS workers work together with AQL counsellors and your doctor or Aboriginal health worker to make sure you’re getting the best support possible, for your entire quit journey.
